About the Position

Nuveen’s Fixed Income Research Team is seeking to hire a senior research analyst to primarily cover developed and emerging European sovereign debt and rates markets for our London, UK location.  The successful candidate will be an experienced, energetic, and contributing member of a highly successful group of investment professionals.  Â

The right individual must have an understanding of developed and emerging European sovereign markets, along with rates and foreign currency analysis with a preference for buy side experience. Â Solid critical thinking, communications, and interpersonal skills are required to be successful. Â The successful candidate will work with various portfolio managers and research analysts in generating total return recommendations across a wide range of portfolio mandates, including global and international bond strategies, closed end funds, separately managed accounts, emerging market local and hard currency mandates, and General Account insurance mandates. The Global Fixed Income Research team supports numerous fixed income portfolio mandates that collectively manage approximately $300 billion in fixed income assets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

•   Work in close collaboration with US based portfolio managers, traders, and other research analysts to provide thorough macro, sovereign, and political analysis and actionable trading ideas. Work with a total return framework that emphasizes rates, foreign currency, and curve analysis. Provide relative value analysis between Euro and USD credit and support cross currency basis swap investment idea generation.

•   Evaluate and monitor the credit quality characteristics of European sovereign, supranational and agency issuers.  Conduct independent fundamental credit research and create historical and projected financial models which capture credit trends.  Evaluate, monitor and communicate in a timely manner sovereign macroeconomic and political drivers.Â

•   Assist portfolio managers with research and analysis in their process to form and implement their investment strategies and support other parts of the Nuveen organization as a local subject matter expert.Â

•   Contribute to all formal reports and research processes (internal ratings, recommendation lists, watch lists, etc.) that enable the efficient and transparent oversight of the asset class.

•   Represent Nuveen Global Fixed Income Research in meetings with issuers and at conferences and industry events. Interface with internal business partners, assist in client interactions, and support ESG leadership and integration efforts in the European sovereign space. Â

•   Primary Market liaison responsibilities (non-execution) to communicate New Issue announcements and to socialize deal details and updates.

QUALIFICATIONS

•   Bachelor's degree required. MBA, CFA designation, or advanced degree preferred.Â

•   5+years’ experience of economic, financial and political analysis, preferably at buy side firms. Special emphasis on rates, FX, and sovereign credit research as well as some experience in a total rate of return environment.Â

•   Broad-based knowledge of rates, FX and sovereign credit analysis and investing in developed and emerging European sovereign issuers.Â

•   Sound quantitative, analytical, critical thinking and financial modelling abilities. Knowledge and systems ability with Excel and Bloomberg. Â

•   Solid communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.  Resourceful and entrepreneurial attitude with an ability to work independently as part of a global research team.

•   Experience working with issuers, policy makers, and industry relationships within Europe.Â
