This position will report to Nuveen’s VP, Head of Project Management, Business Analysis and Testing, and will be part of a new five-person team (two VPs and 3 AVPs, including this position and the head of the unit). The successful candidate will lead smaller projects on his or her own and will assist with managing larger-scale programs and initiatives. Working in cooperation with project managers from Nuveen’s IT teams, this new group will focus on Nuveen’s Global Investment Operations (NGIO) unit and drive project activity for various initiatives throughout the firm from an operations perspective.
KEYRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Working with NGIOteams to develop written specifications for new software development within anapplication or integration between applications
Managing businessprojects within NGIO
Coordinating theconversion of data from existing portfolio accounting systems to the Nuveenplatform
Coordinating creationand maintenance of use cases for NGIO testing
Testing ofapplications and interfaces for upgrades and/or new development
Maintaining alltest results
Current projects in flight are numerous and include migrating Nuveen affiliates off legacy portfolio accounting applications onto Eagle STAR, integration of order management systems. Across affiliates and possibly asset classes, defining required improvements to STAR to support derivatives, private equity and private debt investments, selection and implementation of a new collateral management system, improved support of custodian reconciliation, introduction of robotics and artificial intelligence, improved automated workflows using K-2 or Activity and continued process improvement efforts. As additional affiliates ‘opt in’ to Nuveen’s shared-services platform, the incumbent will assist with efforts to onboard those affiliates to Nuveen systems and processes.
3+ years of experience in each of the following(which could be concurrent):
IT, operations and/or accounting experience
Buy-side experience in traditional assetmanagement operations
Prior experience managing projects, testing orin business analysis
Project Management Professional (PMP) orCertified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification strongly desired
Ideally, extensive hands-on experience usingEagle STAR as an operations user, though this is not required
Ability to partner well with others inoperations and throughout Nuveen and TIAA
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Must understand operational processes, including their interaction with systems processes and interfaces to identify opportunities for improvement. Must understand what comprises an effective control environment across all operational functions within Nuveen supporting a broad array of asset classes and security types. Analytical skills must be combined with deep domain experience to plan projects, propose cost / benefit options and manage deadlines and complex dependencies. Project management skills and experience are required.
In-depth knowledge of the lifecycle of various securities not limited to equities, fixed income, mutual funds, derivatives, private equity and private debt as well as an understanding of how the different areas of investment operations work together as one team to meet goals. Significant understanding of operational risk within investment management is required, including (but not limited to) a strong understanding of which duties must be segregated (and why) and design of an effective control environment. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential.
Have a strong understanding of the investment management business with in-depth knowledge of buy-side operations across several functions (trade settlement, corporate actions, pricing, collateral management, portfolio accounting or custodian reconciliation). Knowledge of order management systems, portfolio accounting systems, settlement utilities (such as Omgeo, SWIFT and DTCC) or custodians is key.
Experience with multi-currency investing, portfolio accounting and performance measurement is essential.
Ability to effectively communicate with a large number of internal and external parties, display ability to actively listen, work as one team, and speak confidently and effectively to both small and large groups is key to this position. Ability to make a persuasive argument, both orally and in writing, is very important for this role.
