TIAA Sr Technical Lead in CHARLOTTE, North Carolina

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Technical Lead is the trusted advisor for both the Chief Data Office & the Business leadership team. The individual is a results driven self-starter and will be responsible for syndicating & developing the target state vision and strategy for systems, processes, information and technologies that product or consume data across TIAA. This is enabled through deep and broad expertise of both technology and financial services business.

In addition to visioning, the role is responsible for assisting, enabling and directing the technology development teams in building out the appropriate roadmaps to iteratively develop the capabilities to achieve the desired target state. The strategies are expected to be fluid and evolve over time and the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring all artifacts remain relevant.

  • Serves as an integral member of the teamthat helps develop a consolidated business and technology roadmap to helpensure that resources, interdependencies and business priorities areeffectively aligned

  • Translate complex topics, concepts andbusiness opportunities into possible system architectural and designsolution options that will help Mecklenburg County take advantage ofmarket opportunities or overcome business challenges; create a standardset of EA work products including business capability models, logicalarchitecture models, and physical architecture models that enable theorganization to achieve the value identified with high quality.

  • Manages multiple projects and prioritiessimultaneously

  • Work successfully with and on Agile teams

  • Determine overall modeling standards,guidelines, best practices and approved modeling techniques andapproaches.

  • Participate in due diligence of newsoftware purchases by reviewing all proposed data models contained inpackaged or commercially available applications.

  • Serve on data integration, businessintelligence and content management

  • Work with business users to identify anddocument the key facts and dimensions necessary to support the businessrequirements.

  • Develop and maintain conceptual, logicaland physical models, as well as metadata repository.

  • Identify the appropriate data sources withthe assistance of the business analysts and conduct thorough data qualityassessments on source data. Prepare prototype models to supportdevelopment efforts.

  • Develop entity and attribute descriptionsand definitions for the models. Ensure that conflicts in descriptions anddefinitions are resolved.

  • Describing data entities andrelationships, master data, metadata, data quality, data cleansing, anddata governance

  • Understanding complex data relationshipsamong multiple sources of structured and unstructured data

Technicalknowledge

  • Broad and deep understanding of all facetsof Enterprise Data Architecture: Application, Security &Technical Architectures.

  • Apply a structured enterprise data architectureapproach and methodology for capturing the business unit’s key views inthe context of the enterprise. Create visual, high-level models thatcan be used to extend and mature the enterprise data architecture.

  • Analyze and model businessfunctions/capabilities and processes. Validate the models withstakeholders and publish the knowledge/metadata.

  • Enumerate, analyze, catalog and suggestimprovements to the strategic, core and support processes of the businessunit to support strategic and operational goals.

  • Adopt/adapt industry best practices forTIAA utilization. Stays current with technology trends.

  • Ability to balance Enterprise DataArchitecture objectives with immediate business solution needs.Apply architectural principles, method and tools to business challenges.

QUALIFICATIONS:

RequiredSkills

  • 10 or more years of experience in Architecting,Modeling, Developing, integrating and delivering data based applicationson both relation and non-relational systems

  • Experience leading Agile development teams

  • 3 or more years of experience leading cloud-basedapplication development and deployment

  • 3 or more years of experience leading container-basedapplication development and deployment

  • 10 or more years of software developmentusing 3 or more of the following tools (Java, C#, Erwin, Eclipse, SQLServer, Oracle, HTML, JavaScript, Perl, Python, Typescript)

Desired Skills

  • 8+ Data Analysis

  • 5+ Data Warehouse

  • 6 or more years of experience in financialservices.

  • Multiple data architecture implementationusing a very diverse data toolset.

  • Track record of supporting a diverse setof businesses with varying requirements.

  • Strong leadership skills with thestrategic sense and ability to set the technology agenda and create thedrive to deliver large strategic programs.

  • Systems Thinking - the ability to see howparts interact with the whole

  • Strong inter-personal and leadershipskills – energy and drive, delivery focus, strategic-thinking,collaboration, facilitation, negotiation and motivational skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain strategicpartnerships with the business units, internal peers, and externalsuppliers.

  • Understanding of risk and control of data,including information security, business continuity and resumption.

  • Emotional intelligence - self awareness,confidence, ability to manage conflict, empathy

  • Communication skills - both written and spoken

  • Ability to explain complex technicalissues in a way non-technical people understand

  • Knowledge of IT governance and operations
