TIAA Lead Development Manager - Mobile Platforms in CHARLOTTE, North Carolina

This position will be responsible for leading the development of the Mobile platform and engineering practices within TIAA. The position will be responsible for design and development of the TIAA Android mobile application and for managing the resources within the Android development team.


  • Isan active/hands-on participant the in software design, development and deliveryof the platform

  • Co-ordinatesthe development efforts with the mobile architect to ensure consistencyacross the app

  • Manages and co-ordinatesthe efforts of the mobile development team of Android engineers.

  • Helps toimplement mobile engineering CI/CD pipelines, including automated buildand release processes, fully automated testing suites, and productionmonitoring and support.

  • Ensuresthe mobile development team is complying with relevant coding and engineering practices

  • Provides theteam with guidance on code reviews, branching strategy, and releasecoordination

  • Adaptsthe level of detail according to the objective of the documentation andtargeted audience.

  • Understandsprocess improvement methods and measurement techniques.

  • Accountsfor own and others activities, working within the project scope, making choicesand giving instructions. Manages relationships within the team. Plans andestablishes team objectives and outputs. Documents results. Manages projectrisk and issues.

  • Systematicallyinterprets user problems identifying the solutions and possible risks.

  • Usesexperience to isolate user problems and effectively uses all resources toidentify potential solutions (e.g., databases, documentation, etc). Escalatescomplex or unresolved incidents to experts.

  • Resolvesescalated issues throughout the development, configuration, andmodification of integrated business and/or enterprise applicationsolutions.

  • Drivethe delivery of superior technical implementations to drivebusiness objectives.

  • Approaches tasks systematically and independently adapts workactivities and behaviors to support changes in requirements from stakeholders.

  • Identify new technologies and trends which offer alternativeinnovative solutions.

  • Uses in-depth knowledge of TIAA businesses and organizationstructure to ensure projects/programs are aligned with the IT and businessstrategies.



  • Bachelor’sDegree is required.

  • 3 or more years of experience leading development teams

  • 5 or more years of Mobile (iOS or Android) development experience

  • 10 or more years of development experience

  • Experience defining architecture of a mobile app currently inGoogle Play or Apple App Store


  • Experiencewith building and publishing mobile apps in customer facing mobile appstores.

  • Experiencein mobile programming languages (Kotlin/Java)

  • Experiencewith mobile performance tuning

  • Strongexperience in debugging, code coverage, code analyzer / profiler and unittesting tools

  • Strong focuson security of the channel and any customer data

  • Well versedin real-time networking, mobile network issues, concurrency and threading

  • Abilityand interest to stay up to date on the latest Mobile Platform offerings fromcompanies like Google and Samsung and others and apply opportunities that mayexist to our products.

  • 3+years of Java/J2EE development experience to support a full-stack view ofthe mobile solution

  • Financial Services industry experience

People Management Skills:

  • Experience advising developers on technical direction, designpatterns, and reuse opportunities

  • Direct, motivate and develop staff through coaching andmentoring so as to maximize their individual contributions, professional growthand ability to function effectively as a team.

  • Hires,trains, and develops talent for growth opportunities; monitorsteam/individual’s morale and engagement to maintain highly effective andcollaborative environments

  • Manage all human capital management functions for organizationincluding: recruitment, development, mobility, performance objective setting,performance evaluations, compensation, promotions, succession planningdeployment and terminations.

  • Design a lean team structure that optimizes round-the-clocksupport while maximizing efficiency and automation.

  • Strong adaptive leadership and interpersonal skills

Technology Leadership Skills:

  • Demonstratea combination of a highly-technical hands-on software development guidanceand be an effective leader.

  • An understanding of Technology infrastructure and ability towork effectively with Infrastructure resources and management.

  • Proven ability to document complex designs and strategiesclearly including architectural images and whitepapers as needed

  • Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies

  • Familiarity with automated unit testing, test drivendevelopment, and behavior driven development practices

  • Understanding of advanced software development concepts suchdomain driven design and object-oriented design principles

  • Passionate about technology and solving problems with technology

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in order toprogress the development of cloud ready solutions
