TIAA Director, Public Relations in Charlotte, North Carolina
The Public Relations job designs and executes external communications programs to support TIAA's core institutional retirement business, including its higher education, health care, and other nonprofit segments. The scope of these programs includes media relations, external executive visibility, thought leadership and reputation management. This job is responsible for executing robust external communications programs to reach plan sponsors, consultants and other key decision-makers to best position the company's suite of products, services and overall expertise in the retirement industry. In addition, this job provides external communications counsel to senior management and other internal subject-matter experts.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Identifies, creates and executes external communication programs in support of various strategic priorities identified by Business and Marketing partners, with a key emphasis on lifetime income, financial wellness and TIAA’s industry-leading suite of financial services products and offerings.
Creates content, messaging and pro-active programs that support key business to business initiatives and themes such as lifetime income, the role of annuities in retirement planning, investing habits and needs of Millennial's as well as public policy issues related to retirement security and fiduciary responsibility.
Works closely with Communications partners to drive integrated programs and messages to stakeholders.
Works closely with the larger Marketing and Communications teams and key stakeholders to ensure alignment around key priorities, positioning and initiatives.
Manages reputational issues affecting the business and its clients and collaborates with colleagues to ensure that company-wide issues are addressed and shared with business partners in an effective and efficient manner.
Drives positioning programs into the market through all applicable communications channels, especially targeted media outlets, with particular focus on the role of the company’s senior-most Institutional leaders in positioning the firm positively.
Implements the full spectrum of communications materials in support of the institutional retirement business and business to business positioning, including messaging documents, press releases, Q&A and senior-leader and subject matter expert platform development.
Participates in the design, execution and promotion of the PR Survey Program, including the creation of key materials (executive summaries, messages, press releases, etc.), and preparation of spokespeople, to help drive external visibility of survey findings.

Five years of proven track record working in a PR/media relations role
Five years of experience identifying, creating and executing external communication programs in support of various strategic business priorities
Five Years of strong writing, editing, content development capabilities.
Organized and energetic, with an ability to work in a fast-paced work environment managing multiple deadlines and competing priorities
An understanding of social media, the 24/7 news cycle and today’s communications environment
An ability to understand complex concepts and distill for members of the media
Financial services experience
PR Agency experience
Available writing samples and concrete work examples
Detail oriented and a strong verbal communicator
Experience creating and/or promoting research
Potential Salary: $160,000.00 USD
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
