TIAA seeks an experienced attorney to join our Global Employment, Benefits & Labor Law (Global EB&L Law) department as a Director & Associate General Counsel. This role will be based at TIAA’s corporate campus in Charlotte, NC and will report to the Head of Global EB&L Law. The role will support one or more lines of business or corporate functions, including TIAA Bank.
Global EB&L Law is the company's legal advisors for labor, employment, compensation and benefits matters. The attorneys in the department have extensive experience advising management on the broad spectrum of laws and regulations impacting the workplace. They also manage employment-related litigation, administrative charges and regulatory actions.
Matters on which the group provides advice and counsel include the following: fair employment practices such as equal employment opportunity, anti-discrimination, anti-retaliation, anti-harassment and accommodation; incentive compensation programs; restrictive covenant and other asset protection strategies and enforcement; employment contracts; individual employment rights; employee benefit plans; employee relations; employee leaves; affirmative action; contingent worker/independent contractor issues; employment issues in business restructuring and reductions in force; occupational health and safety; immigration; unemployment insurance and workers compensation coverage; performance management, employee discipline and employee retention; diversity strategies; labor relations; employment-related investigations; wage-and-hour compliance; employee policy development, review and enforcement; employment best practices training; employment practices risk reduction strategies; employment issues in mergers, acquisitions and subsidiary relations.
JD degree from an ABA accredited law school and memberin good standing of state bar in North Carolina orqualify for in house counsel status in NC
6+years of law firm and/or corporateexperience focused exclusively or primarily on employment law mattersincluding experience providing advice and counsel on legal issues andrepresenting clients in regulatory matters, litigation and other legalproceedings
Experience advising on federal, state and localemployment laws and regulations
Litigation experience with employment-related legalclaims
Ability to quickly identify, analyze and proposesolutions to legal issues
Ability to thoughtfully balance business needs withlegal obligations
Strong drafting skills
Well-organized and able to manage numerous projectssimultaneously under deadline pressure with minimal supervision
Strong advocacy skills and experience
